This weekend sees the return of the East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix. Following last year's very successful event, both in terms of national exposure for our area and the boost to the local economy from the vast numbers of spectators lining the streets of our East Cleveland Villages, it is hoped that this year the race, on Sunday 29th April, will be watched by an even bigger audience. The event is once again sponsored by the East Cleveland Villages Big Local in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. Velo 29 are once again the race event organisers.

Members of Lockwood Parish Council visited both Lockwood Primary School and Lingdale Primary School in the two weeks before Christmas to hand out Christmas presents to all the children.

The Parish Council funded the purchase of over 300 books so that a reading book could be given to each child in every school.

With ages ranging from 2 years up to 11 years, all books were specially chosen to be age appropriate for each year group. Both schools also received a small selection of books to add to their school libraries.

The children were all excited to received their wrapped presents and we hope they enjoyed reading their books over the Christmas holidays.

The East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix bike race will be passing through many of our East Cleveland villages on Sunday 2nd April 2017 and we want as many people as possible to get involved with the event. The race, which is endorsed and run through British Cycling, will be a qualifier for the TOUR DE YORKSHIRE and so it is expected that between 120 and 140 professional riders and their teams will be taking part on the day.

The race is being sponsored by East Cleveland Villages Big Local and the 90 mile route has been designed to showcase the lovely East Cleveland countryside. The race will begin in Guisborough at 12noon and will pass through or past Charltons, Margrove Park, Boosbeck, Lingdale, Kilton, Carlin How, Skiningrove, Loftus, Liverton Mines, Liverton Village, Grinkle, Easington, then back through Loftus, Carlin How and then through Brotton, Saltburn, Skelton Castle, Skelton Green and back to Boosbeck. This 24 mile circuit will be completed three times. There is then a shorter 10 mile circuit which takes in Boosbeck, Lingdale, Brotton, Saltburn, Four Lane Ends, Skelton Green and Boosbeck before the riders head to the finish line on Westgate via Margrove Park and Charltons. The prize giving will be at the pedestrianised area of the cross opposite the Old Town Hall on Westgate at around 4.15pm.
