This weekend sees the return of the East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix. Following last year's very successful event, both in terms of national exposure for our area and the boost to the local economy from the vast numbers of spectators lining the streets of our East Cleveland Villages, it is hoped that this year the race, on Sunday 29th April, will be watched by an even bigger audience. The event is once again sponsored by the East Cleveland Villages Big Local in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. Velo 29 are once again the race event organisers.
Full details of the race including the full route, details of road closures and rolling road closures during the race itself and what's on in each of the villages on route can be found on the Klondike Grand Prix website.
With cyclists expected to reach speeds of 50mph at certain points of the race it is essential that the race route is kept clear of parked cars on the day of the race. Residents and visitors are therefore requested to park their vehicles off the race route on Sunday.
The race will again start and finish on Westgate in Guisborough. The race is due to start at 12.00 following a route out through Dunsdale, Sandy Lane, New Marske, Skelton and Skelton Green before commencing the first lap at Boosbeck.
Boosbeck, Lingdale and Kilton will each see four passes of the race.
Projected times, which will vary depending on the speed of the race, are as follows:-
Boosbeck 1st pass 12.22 -12.27 2nd pass 13.15 - 13.31, 3rd pass 14.08 -14.35 and final pass 15.01 - 15.40
