The East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix bike race will be passing through many of our East Cleveland villages on Sunday 2nd April 2017 and we want as many people as possible to get involved with the event. The race, which is endorsed and run through British Cycling, will be a qualifier for the TOUR DE YORKSHIRE and so it is expected that between 120 and 140 professional riders and their teams will be taking part on the day.

The race is being sponsored by East Cleveland Villages Big Local and the 90 mile route has been designed to showcase the lovely East Cleveland countryside. The race will begin in Guisborough at 12noon and will pass through or past Charltons, Margrove Park, Boosbeck, Lingdale, Kilton, Carlin How, Skiningrove, Loftus, Liverton Mines, Liverton Village, Grinkle, Easington, then back through Loftus, Carlin How and then through Brotton, Saltburn, Skelton Castle, Skelton Green and back to Boosbeck. This 24 mile circuit will be completed three times. There is then a shorter 10 mile circuit which takes in Boosbeck, Lingdale, Brotton, Saltburn, Four Lane Ends, Skelton Green and Boosbeck before the riders head to the finish line on Westgate via Margrove Park and Charltons. The prize giving will be at the pedestrianised area of the cross opposite the Old Town Hall on Westgate at around 4.15pm.

Full details of the race can be found here http://velo29events.com/races/klondike-grand-prix/

This is a big and very exciting event for our area and it is hoped that the event will run for at least three years so it is important this year's first race is a success.

Lockwood Parish Council is working alongside the East Cleveland Villages Big Local, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and various community groups to enhance this event by tidying and decorating our patch and putting on fun events.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

We would like residents and businesses to get involved and help make the event a memorable one.

* Do you own a business on the route? Would you like to decorate your shop window to mark the occassion?

* Will you be open on the day to cater for spectators?

* Have you got a safe location on or near the route to put up an old bike decorated in the race colours of yellow and dark green? Have you got an old bike you can decorate or donate? (Donated bikes can be handed in at Lingdale Village Hall between 9am and 2pm Monday - Friday)

* Are you willing to display posters in your front windows or have bunting on your property?

Would you like to be a Race Ambassador?

Mature, responsible volunteers are needed to join the traffic management teams set up by the specialised traffic management company, CTM (Community TM Ltd). The roles will vary from working with the traffic management team out on the main course, to helping cover junctions in the town and village centres and explaining to motorists what is occurring and how long for. CTM will provide all volunteers with the necessary information to ensure that all fully understand their role and are 100% comfortable with it.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to get involved with a professional cycle race on our doorstep, destined to become an annual, national event and at the same time, demonstrate that we do have a community spirit in East Cleveland.
