It was a fantastic day for the Lockwood Parish Council area at the 2014 Northumbria in Bloom awards ceremony which was held at Gosforth Park racecourse, Newcastle, on Tuesday 16th September 2014, as representatives from the area picked up no fewer than 11 awards.

There were awards for three of our villages with Moorsholm also scooping the top prize with the Percy Boydell Trophy for best overall entry into the 2014 competition.

Margrove Park won a Silver in the Small Village category, Lingdale again won Gold in the Large Village section and Moorsholm won Gold and Best Village in the Village category.

There was an individual award for Kevin Wilson in the salaried category for an Outstanding Contribution to Lingdale  (Kevin is pictured below receiving his award from Lockwood Parish Council Chairman, Mike Jefferson)) and Outstanding Voluntary Contribution awards for Mike Jefferson (Lingdale) and Barbara Cartwright (Moorsholm).

St Mary's Parish Church at Moorsholm won a Gold in the Religious Establishments category.

There were also 3 Gold Certificates awarded to Lockwood residents in the Private Gardens category.

This is once again a fantastic achievement for an area the size of Lockwood and is a fitting reward for the tremendous amount of hard work and planning that all the volunteer members of our 'In Bloom' groups put in throughout the year to produce the magnificent floral displays that have graced our villages this Spring and Summer.

There was no doubt that Moorsholm were the stars of the show and will now progress as 1 of 6 entrants to represent Northumbria in Bloom in the RHS Britain in Bloom awards to be held in Bristol on 16th October.

The Parish Council would like to congratulate all of our winners and thank everyone involved in the 'In Bloom' groups for their extensive and continued contribution to the enhancement of our area and also wish Moorsholm every success at the Britain in Bloom awards in October.
